Three contests pitting the experienced and massive bulls from the county, will mark the end of the tournament on Saturday

Despite the torrential downpour, Day 3 of the inaugural Mozzart Bet Mayo Bullfighting tournament served thrills, with two entertaining contests going down on the muddy Shieywe bullring.

The decision to stage fights in the afternoon backfired as the heavens opened soon after the first pair of bulls locked horns.

The rains may have caused slight disruption and inconvenience, but it is perhaps what bullfighting fans needed, as their chants and enthusiasm in supporting their favourite bull grew as the pounds intensified.

Before the contests kicked off, Kakamega County Deputy Governor Ayub Savula gave each bull owner, including those who did not fight in the day, Ksh5,000.

Mozzart Bet Deputy Country Manager Bojan Korac and the firm's Head of Marketing Frank Okoth were also present to witness Friday's action.

A Butsotso Derby pitting Rogaroga against Governor opened the ring with the match living to its billing as it lasted for ten minutes.

Rogaroga, would claim the bragging rights much to the delight of the thousands of fans backing the bull.

The second match saw Ringo Junior from Murhanda retire from bullfighting after losing to Dragon from Shihumbu.

Ringo came into the contest on the back of three consecutive defeats and a fourth one, after five minutes, sealed his fate in bullfighting.

According to the organisers, a bull is retired upon losing four consecutive matches and is either sold to the Kenya Meat Commission or local butcheries.

Meanwhile, three contests, which will pit the experienced and humongous bulls from the county, will mark the end of the tournament on Saturday.

Hazard, from Imachina, will take on Nyayo from Mukhonje in what is expected to be the first fight of the day.

Local residents say Hazard is the heaviest bull in the region.

Professor Irungu from Shitaho will have a date with BBI from Kabras.

Irungu has not tasted defeat in the last ten fights, according to the organisers.

Junior from Shieywe Junction has been paired against Promise from Shinyalu.
